The Georgetown Global Health Nigeria (GGHN) is the operational arm and an affiliate of Georgetown University Centre for Global Health Practice and Impact (CGHPI) in Nigeria. GGHN is a Non–profit, Non-Governmental Organization in Nigeria that promotes best practices in health care delivery and research using local and internationally adapted models to strengthen health systems.

Job Title: French Translator – Public Health Emergency Management Professional Development Program (PHEM PDP)

Description

  • The Public Health Emergency Management Professional Development Program (PHEM PDP) is a co-curricular program carefully crafted to focus on and develop the required professional skills necessary for successfully preparing for and responding to public health threats and emergencies.

Scope of Engagement to Translate PHEM PDP Documents and Presentation Slides
Introduction:

  • The PHEM-PDP-in-a-box to be translated includes:
    • The Professional Certificate (PC) (Generic and Nigeria Iteration) (81 Files)
    • PHEM Basic Level 3 (Generic and Nigeria Iteration) (13 Files)
    • PHEM Basic Level 2 (Generic and Nigeria Iteration) (11 Files)
    • PHEM Basic Level 1 (Generic and Nigeria Iteration) (11 Files)
    • PHEM PDP Documents (Generic and Nigeria Iteration) (7 Files)
    • PHEM Basic Documents (Generic and Nigeria Iteration) (6 Files)
  • The translator(s) will provide professional translation of documents and presentation slides from the source language (English) to the target language (French) while maintaining the original meaning, tone, and context.

Language Proficiency:

  • The translator(s) must possess native or near-native proficiency in both the source language (English) and the target language (French).
  • A strong command of grammar, vocabulary, and idiomatic expressions in both languages is essential.

Technical knowledge and Subject Matter Expertise:

  • GGHN will require proof of capacity as evidenced by references on work that has been previously done by the translator. Proof of previous work in health-related materials shall be an added advantage.
  • The translator(s) should have expertise in the subject matter of the documents or content to be translated.
  • Familiarity with relevant terminology, jargon, and concepts in Public Health Emergency Management language is crucial for accurate and contextually appropriate translations.

Accuracy and Quality:

  • The translator(s) is/are responsible for producing high-quality, error-free translations (grammar, syntax, and spelling) that maintain the original meaning and tone of the source content.
  • To safeguard against errors, the final versions of the translated documents will be translated back to English by a third party to ensure no deviations from the intended meanings. Any errors noted will be returned to the translator for rectification.
  • Proofreading and editing of translated content may be required to ensure the highest quality deliverables.

Confidentiality and Non-Disclosure:

  • The translator(s) must adhere to strict confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements to protect the confidentiality of the translated content and any sensitive information accessed during the engagement.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Effective communication with the translator is essential for clarifying requirements, discussing project details, and addressing questions or concerns.
  • The translator(s) should be responsive and provide timely updates on the progress of the translation tasks.

Timeline and Turnaround:

  • A clear timeline for translating each document should be agreed upon in advance.
  • The translator(s) should provide realistic estimates of the time required for completion, considering factors such as document length, complexity, and formatting.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • The translator(s) should maintain clear documentation of all translated materials, including version control, reference documents, and supporting information.
  • Reporting on completed translations, status updates, and any issues or challenges encountered should be provided as required.

File Formats and Formatting:

  • The translator(s) should be proficient in working with various file formats commonly used for documents and presentations.
  • Ensure that the translated content’s formatting, layout, and design closely match the original document.

Payment and Terms:

  • The payment terms, rates, and invoicing details shall be discussed and agreed upon in advance.
  • Any additional expenses, such as software or tools required for translation, shall be communicated and agreed upon.

Feedback and Evaluation:

  • Feedback on the quality and accuracy of the translations shall be provided to the translator.
  • Evaluation of the translator’s performance will be conducted based on the overall satisfaction of the translated content and adherence to the agreed-upon terms.
