Context
- Irregular migration along the Central Mediterranean Route (CMR) remains a significant global challenge, with Nigerian citizens seeking economic opportunities in West and Northern Africa. Exploitative practices affect 30% of migrants on the CMR route, necessitating comprehensive reintegration assistance.
- IOM, in collaboration with various partners, has initiated a protection program to enhance the security, dignity, and rights of migrants and improve returnee reintegration.
- The broader program areas include protection and assistance to vulnerable migrants, counter-trafficking, voluntary return and reintegration (AVRR), mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), and facilitating regular migration pathways.
- The program aims for a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, fostering synergies and strengthening technical and material capacities for sustainable outcomes.
- Working under the overall supervision of the Head of Office, Benin City, and technical supervision of the Senior Project Assistant MM/MPA, the Project Assistant will assist in implementing and monitoring AVRR interventions.
- The focus is on strengthening local actors’ capacities, particularly at the state level, to enhance rehabilitation and reintegration support services.
Core Functions / Responsibilities
- Provide overall support to the day-to-day implementation of reintegration projects under PxD through rights-based approaches.
- Offer rehabilitation and reintegration support to returned migrants in coordination with the Senior Project Assistant, including documentation and screening.
- Facilitate data entry into relevant databases and support data processing and analysis.
- Support monitoring of reintegration activities and assess the impact of grants and community projects.
- Undertake duty travel as required.
- Provide technical and administrative support to state and non-state actors involved in rehabilitation and reintegration assistance.
- Liaise with relevant stakeholders on partnerships and migrant assistance.
- Distribute travel allowances and return grants to returning migrants.
- Contribute to the review of business plan conditions for reintegration programs.
- Monitor the implementation of activities through field visits to beneficiaries’ business sites.
- Assist in developing beneficiary profiles and needs assessments, ensuring proper documentation in a database.
- Collect, prepare, and present information through monitoring reports on reintegration activities.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completed University Degree or High School Diploma with related professional experience.
- Experience in working with migrants and socio-economic reintegration.
- Familiarity with programmatic issues related to return, reintegration, and migration management.
- Knowledge of social development and migration issues.
- Proficiency in English (oral and written).
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication skills (Oral and Written).
Skills:
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Good knowledge of information technology and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and SharePoint.
