Labour – Ignore Calls for Strike Action. It is Fake news and Jobs Today at The African Union and Maersk
In a recent report by Vanguard Newspaper Nigeria, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) strongly refuted the legitimacy of a circular circulating on social media. The alleged document, titled “NLC/TUC Nationwide Strike Action: A Gentle Reminder,” purportedly signed by NLC General Secretary Comrade Emma Ugbaja and TUC Secretary General Comrade Nuhu Toro, urged affiliate unions to initiate a strike on December 18, 2023.
Despite bearing the logos of both labor centers, the circular failed to provide any explanation for the proposed strike. It instructed workers nationwide to cease their services starting from midnight on December 18, citing a decision made by the Joint National Executive Council (NEC) of NLC and TUC.
However, Comrade Emma Ugbaja, upon being contacted to authenticate the circular, vehemently disclaimed any knowledge of a planned strike on the specified date. He explicitly labeled the circulated memo as “absolutely fake” and urged workers to disregard it, emphasizing that it did not originate from either of the two labor centers. Workers were advised not to be swayed by the misinformation circulating on social media platforms.
